The Rock Climbing Instructor award is about supervising safe and enjoyable climbing and abseiling sessions on single-pitch crags and in climbing walls. The Rock Climbing Instructor award has been designed to prove competence in the supervision of safe and effective climbing sessions.

Rock Climbing Instructor Training (3 days total) - £250*
The Rock Climbing Instructor Training course is for experienced rock climbers who want to learn the skills necessary to introduce people to outdoor rock or indoor climbing. The course equips you with the technical skills, knowledge of equipment, awareness of all aspects of managing safety and decision-making needed to work as a rock climbing instructor. The course commences at 09:00 at Awesome Walls indoor climbing centre in Sheffield (the entry fee of candidates is not included in the course fee) with each day finishing by 17:00. The remainder of the course is spent around the Hope Valley and is non-residential. It is the responsibility of candidates to arrange their own accommodation and meals. This course is delivered on a 1:4 ratio.
Candidates are responsible for arranging their own transport to/from each of the days (There is a BMC 'LiftShare' scheme - details here).
Before attending a Rock Climbing Instructor training course, candidates need to register with Mountain Training. Further details regarding this process can be found here. Candidates must have led a number of traditionally protected outdoor climbs, bolted sport routes and indoor climbs which have been recorded on the DLOG system (further details of how to use DLOG can be found here). Once you have booked a place on the course you will be emailed detailed course notes outlining the programme, meeting points and required equipment etc.

The Rock Climbing Instructor Assessment course assesses candidates ability to run safe and rewarding single pitch rock and indoor climbing and abseiling sessions for new climbers. The course commences at 09:00 at Hagg Farm Outdoor Education Centre with the final day finishing by 17:00. The course is non-residential and it is the responsibility of candidates to arrange their own accommodation and meals. This course is delivered on a 1:4 ratio.
